Kildare Public Participation Networks announce their fourth annual Climate Action Weekend
On the 19th and 20th of April 2024, Kildare Public Participation Network (Kildare PPN) will proudly host their much-anticipated Climate Action Weekend. This event aims to bring together individuals, families, and communities for a series of engaging workshops and activities centred around climate action and sustainability.
Kildare PPN invites all concerned citizens to participate in a variety of informative workshops, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities, empowering attendees to take meaningful steps towards climate resilience. The weekend serves as a platform to foster dialogue, inspire action, and drive positive change at the local level.
Friday, April 19th will kick off with an online talk titled “Kildare Climate Action: Our Journey,” delivered by Paula O’Rourke, the climate action coordinator at Kildare County Council. Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into the Kildare County Council Action Plan 2024-2029 and explore avenues for individual and community involvement.
Following the online talk, a Climate Justice Workshop will be led by Alex Whyatt, from Global Action Plan, focusing on the intersection of climate change and human rights, with a particular emphasis on solidarity with communities in the Global South.
Austin Egan from Chadwick’s will be on hand in Naas Library to help guide people in using a new app called yourretrofit.ie, a free platform providing personalised plans for your retrofit to enable you to transform your BER and save on your energy bills.
Saturday, April 20th will feature a range of engaging activities, including workshops on Sustainable Wardrobes, Climate Friendly Foodies and Zero waste-ish Living. These workshops will be facilitated by The Sustainable Life School at Naas Library and Cultural Centre.
Moreover, families are encouraged to attend the Earth Baby Fair 2024 at the Glen Royal Hotel, organised by Cloth Nappy Ireland, featuring various eco-friendly stalls, activities, and resources for sustainable parenting.
“We are thrilled to host Kildare’s Climate Action Weekend, providing a platform for our community to come together, learn, and take action on climate change,” said a spokesperson for Kildare PPN. “By uniting in our commitment to address climate challenges, we can create a more sustainable future for generations to come.”
Attendance to the Climate Action Weekend activities is mostly free, with some events requiring pre-registration on Eventbrite. For more information and to register for workshops, please visit Kildare PPN’s website at www.kildareppn.ie/climate-action-weekend
